How to keep thermos tea hot and tasty
In the mountains, by the river or on the slopes, thermos tea is the best tea. Five simple rules to keep it hot for hours — and stop it turning bitter.

- Preheat the thermos: fill it with boiling water, close it for 5 minutes, then empty it. A cold thermos steals the tea’s heat.
- Count one tea bag per 200 ml of water — two to three bags for a half-litre thermos.
- Brew in a jug or teapot rather than in the thermos itself, and keep it covered while it steeps.
- Take the bags out after the time on the pack. Left in the thermos, the tea turns bitter within a few hours.
- Fill the thermos to the top — less air means it stays hot longer. Carry honey and lemon separately and add them to the cup.
Tip: For trips we pick mild teas that stay smooth even after standing — chamomile, mint and fruit teas.
