How to brew the perfect green tea

If green tea has ever tasted bitter to you, it was probably the water, not the tea. Green tea likes a lower temperature and a shorter steep. Two numbers that change everything: 90 °C and 3 minutes.

You will need

  • 1 Welton Green tea bag
  • 200 ml water
  • a slice of lemon (optional)

Method

  1. Boil the water and wait about 2 minutes for it to drop to around 90 °C. If your kettle has a temperature setting, choose 90.
  2. Pour 200 ml over the tea bag and leave for exactly 3 minutes. Steeping longer draws out bitterness.
  3. Lift the bag out without squeezing. If the taste is too strong, next time steep for 2 minutes rather than adding water.
  4. Drink it plain or with a slice of lemon. Green tea doesn’t need sugar or milk.

Tip: The same rule, 90 °C and 3 minutes, also works for Welton Green tea with lemon and Black tea.
